67 days and counting

For the year 2010, I’ve lived 67 days long already. The past couple of weeks went by in a blur. January came and left; February too. And now it’s March already. Sooner or later the ‘Ber months will come. Time just goes by. From having a “happy new year”, the days have gone down hill. But maybe that’s just me coming to terms with ‘reality’… again. All the festivities that welcome you at the start of year make you really optimistic about the new exciting things that all new years have promised. As the days go by, the promises ages with the time and I still can’t see or feel any result. As someone who has always been a result-oriented person, the stagnant open ended promises drive me crazy. Some may argue that we do still have 298 days to go. Unfortunately, patience has never been one of my virtues. Thus, I have always been a “if-you-want-to-get-things-done,-do-it-yourself” type of person. However, given how this world operates, there are just some things I can’t do by myself – either I don’t have the resources or I’m not authorized. Frustrating, isn’t it? And so I wait…

While waiting, I’m listing some of the things I need to get done.

  1. Organize family pictures. This task has never left my things to do list. For the past 2 years, this mini-project has been ‘in progress.’ I’ve already caught up with the backlog of pictures for printing. Now, I just need the albums to put them into. I’ve already chosen an album design from National Bookstore and have bought around 5 already. I’ll need another set of 5 albums for the remaining pictures. Unfortunately, this particular album design is out of stock in allNational Bookstore outlets.
  2. Reboot 5pestory.org. I’ve already accumulated a handful of pictures worthy of a post. However, before I start posting again, I must upgrade my current photo blog software and its template. I really have to make time for this.
  3. Master Mandarin Chinese. I think I still have a few years to go before I actually master this language. I’ve just been introduced to it last February. Mandarin is a very vibrant language. I have to get used to the intonations to be able to understand and speak it well.
  4. Budget and save up. My spending last year has seriously damaged my savings account and ruined my budget plan. I should have this n amount in my bank account if only I followed my savings plan. IF. This year, I will follow it.
  5. Read a book. It’s been a long time since I’ve finished one book. I don’t think I have read any books last year. I did start one but I have yet to finish it. This year, my goal is to read at least 2-3 books. I’ve already finished one this month. I’m scouting for another good book to read.

The Hoarder

I don’t know why but I can’t seem to detach myself from my old material things. Things like old and used notebooks covered with doodles, old clothes that either doesn’t fit me anymore or it’s so 90’s I won’t get caught wearing it, used books with doodle notes in them and a whole bunch of other stuffs are all still gathering dusts in my closet. Well, I have already cleaned up majority of my things pre-high school era but for the most part everything’s still with me. Every time I try to organize and clean up my old stuff, I find it hard to throw it away. I always have seemingly valid reasons like “I may use that someday” or “it has sentimental value”. At the end of the day, majority of my old things would go back in my closet and won’t see the light  of day until I clean up again.

My hoarding habits has been carried over to the way I keep my digital data. Hard drive space alone, I would need 300GB of space. I need the space for my pictures, music and all other documents. As time passes by, I would need more. Good thing for emails, most email providers are providing unlimited space. And ever since they offered the no space limit feature, I became lazy to delete emails. My main yahoo account has been acquiring emails since forever. And now my Inbox has ballooned to 10,723 emails.

10,00 emails!!!

10,00 emails!!!

Now, that’s a whole lot of emails! This is just my non-work email; my work email is a different issue. So when do I plan to delete these messages? I have no idea. This time it’s not because I may “use it someday” or for the “sentimental value” but because I can’t be bothered. I just think it’s too late to organize a 10,000 email-full inbox. It’s something I just show – off to people. LOL

09/09/09

It’s 09/09/09. I wonder how many people around the world made special plans for this day. Numerology is an interesting system that many people believe in. People have longed studied the relationship of numbers and current events. Beliefs like 7 is lucky and 13 brings bad luck go all the way back. I’m wondering what made people decide that; why can’t be 13 be lucky instead? Ah, the mysteries of life.

If you haven’t noticed yet, this year we’ve seen a lot of cool date patterns. 12:34:56 07/08/09 is one example I could think of; though, depending on the date format you use, this could be read as 12:34:56 of July 8, 2009 or August 7, 2009. With September 9, 2009, you could only read it as one way – 09/09/09. I guess that what makes it special. We won’t encounter another 09/09/09 any time soon.

To remember this special day, I made a list of 9/9/9 things I want to do, want to buy, believe in.

9 Things I Want To Do

  1. Tour Europe.
  2. Tour Egypt.
  3. Bungee jump. But I’ll probably do it when I’m ‘contented’ with my life.
  4. Establish and manage my own business.
  5. Learn how to drift.
  6. See snow
  7. Swim with dolphins. (Which I think will forever be a want because I’m not a good swimmer)
  8. Live in a foreign country for a year. If it’ll be USA, New York will be nice or somewhere in California; if it’ll be a European country, somewhere in London or Greece will be perfect; if it’ll be Asia, Japan is my choice.
  9. Own a pet. I would love to have a puppy.

9 Things I Want To Buy

  1. New camera lens for Canon DSLR. Purpose: portrait or landscape pictures
  2. Shoes. Never enough shoes.
  3. Clothes.
  4. Ticket to Europe. So I can tour Europe of course.
  5. Ticket to Egypt. Yeah, so I can tour Egypt.
  6. Land. I want to own a piece of land as an investment – financial or territorial-wise.
  7. A car.
  8. A nice set of photo albums.
  9. Diamonds. Diamonds are a girl’s best friend, aren’t they?

9 Things I Believe In

  1. Karma
  2. What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger
  3. A Higher Being who is responsible for everything
  4. That we are not alone
  5. Love “martyrs” = Stupid. If someone is cheating/abusing/fooling you, staying with them because of “love” is stupidity.
  6. Women abusers don’t deserve any chance at all
  7. Respect
  8. There is a fine line between respect and misplaced tolerance.
  9. Dreams can come true… if you have the ambition and drive to make it a reality.
