Day 4: Lost in Bangkok’s Chinatown!

To China Town

To China Town

What could be worst than getting lost in a foreign country whose language you don’t speak? Well, it’s getting lost in that country’s very own Chinatown. Our last day in Bangkok was dedicated to another day of shopping. This time, we wanted to check out the products at Chinatown. Also, my bf wanted to find this specific Tamiya car store which was supposed to be located in Chinatown. Knowing only two landmarks – a bridge and KFC – identifying the location of the store, we still headed to Chinatown. We figured we could ask around.

Asking around proved to be quite a challenge. It was like a mini charades game every time we tried to ask where we could find a KFC and bridge. After an hour of searching, we did find a KFC but no bridge in sight. Communicating the concept of a bridge proved to be the ultimate challenge.

After searching for this specific store for over 2 hours, we decided to stop. We weren’t getting anywhere to near to finding the place. If we were on Amazing Race, we would’ve lost. So much for wanting to join that show. So after the failed hunt, we decided to just go check out the other Tamiya store, where he actually had an address and direction.

After he got to splurged on his Tamiya toys, it was my turn. We headed to Platinum Mall. It was huge. Too bad, they don’t allow you to fit the clothes. But if you’re petite, you probably won’t have to. Most of the clothes here are only available in one size; it’s the assumption that one size fits all. Fortunately, there were tons of bags and shoes selections to distract me from the lack of available clothes that fits me. But then again, I was already on a limited budget. So despite all the bags I wanted to take home with me, I only managed to buy one for my mom.

Afterwards, we made our way to MBK. We already visited the mall the previous day after our Ayutthaya trip. We were going back so I could buy the bag I found the other day. Because of the price, I had to sleep it through before making the decision. And well, I couldn’t get it out of my head so I just had to get it.

By the middle of the afternoon, we dashed back to our hotel and packed our things. I landed in Bangkok with just two bags – a big one and a carry on – and leaving with three. Next time, I’m really packing light.

I don’t know what got into our heads and decided to just take the train to the Airport. We read about the new Airport Skylink and how it would save us a couple of bahts. Fortunately luck was on our side and we were always there just before the train leaves. Still, there was definitely a lot of running involved.

And just like everything else, this fantastic vacation has to end. I’m looking forward to going back to Thailand soon!

Philippine Fashion Week 2009

As a kid, I have never really been into fashion. I was contented with the shirt-jeans-sneakers ensemble. I remember my mom having to convince to wear a dress in one of the events we would be going to. But I was really a stubborn child, no convincing would ever get me to wear a dress. Back then, fashion was the least of my worries. My time was usually spent on books, music, webdesign and my other quirky collections. As I grew older, the world of fashion opened up. Little by little, I found myself enjoying window shopping, dressing up, and of course, actually buying the clothes, shoes, bags. It’s not really good budget wise. But it’s fun!

Unfortunately, as much as I would like to dress up every single day, my wardrobe limitation just won’t let me. Plus dressing up for my day job, which requires me to sit in front of the computer and do all techie stuffs, seems overkill. Because of this, I get super excited when an occasion comes that require dressing up. Just like last May, my friends and I were able to attend Sassa Jimenez’ fashion show during Philippine Fashion Week Holiday ’09. Finally, got to dress up again!

Moi and Leigh

Moi and Leigh. I've got one awkward pose.

Aside from the usual college organized fashion shows I’ve been to, I have never really attended A fashion show, specifically organized and handled by the heavy weights of the industry. So, I was really curious and excited to see this one. Add the fact that Sassa Jimenez is a familiar name and face since she went to the same high school as I did. Though I don’t personally know her, I’ve been hearing a lot about her talent from acquaintances and common friends. Come show time, I wasn’t disappointed. Her collection reminded me of the glamour and style of the 40′s. Her designs created an elegant and sophisticated silhouette with a touch of movement. Love it! Unfortunately, my camera died and I don’t have pictures of anything AT all. I was starting to get frustrated when I couldn’t find a picture of the finale dress that I absolutely love. Then, I remembered my friend, Tel, does have one.

Isn’t it lovely? I’ve been scouting the net for a complete gallery of her Holiday ’09 collection but I haven’t been lucky. You could read reviews about it here, here and here. If you want to view more of her designs, you could check out her website, www.sassajimenez.com.ph, and ClickTheCity.com’s gallery for her Spring/Summer 2009 collection.

Rainy Summer Look

If you live in this tropical country named Philippines, you are likely used to the hot weather especially during the summer months spanning from March to May. However, the whole global warming phenomenon is completely changing the seasons. It’s not even the end of the dry season and the country is already experiencing rains and storms. Talk about weather change. I remember a few years back around this time of the year, I would still be complaining about how hot it was and how we need snow donation from those snow-covered countries. Beach bums could still go to the beach, hangout, swim and burn their skins to bronze without worrying about strong winds, currents or any impending storm.

Hello Rain

Hello Rain

Nevertheless, we could use a break from the sun once in a while. I for one could use an excuse to wear one of my jackets / coats. They were pushed at the back of the closet because summer and jackets don’t exactly mix.

The excuse came yesterday. Rain clouds covered Metro Manila leaving no trace of summer. As I dressed for work, I decided to wear my favorite silver gray trench coat. I’m particularly fond of this jacket because it’s the product of my impulsive buying. And yes, I wear trench coat in this country. It’s just a fancy jacket only longer. It made the typical office wear – blouse and slacks – a little bit special. The outfit’s a bit too dark though. The bright yellow bag gave the whole look color.

Bag Coat

Though I think I’m a bit dressed up. :-P Where I work, people are usually in smart casual attire. Walking around the office yesterday, made me feel over dressed. But what the hell. I love clothes, shoes, bags and shopping. It would be a waste if I don’t wear the clothes I bought.

Shhh!

Shhh!

Forgive the picture. Despite being into photography, I can’t take a decent picture of myself. Anyway, I’m just giving this “lookbook” a try. I stumbled upon lookbook.nu and got jealous. The outfit photos of the members of that site look so effortless, so spontaneous. But I’ll bet it still took them several tries to get that one perfect shot. I know I did and it’s not even perfect. The background doesn’t even suite the whole look. Oh well. Excuse the purple pink of a wall. That’s the color of my bedroom wall, that I chose when I was 14. Obviously I never bothered to redesign (repaint) my room. So shhh!
